An interesting note from his father, Evarts C. Stevens, Oct. 1954, mentions:--
"My son John is a graduate of Kent School, Kent, Conn. During his sixth form year one of his closest friends was Andrew Lawson- Tancred. 'Tankey' as we called him, spent several weeks with us in Wallingford and later John visited him in Yorkshire and met his father Sir Thomas Tancred. You will perhaps remember that Sir Thomas' ancestor was also Sir Thomas Tancred who married a Maltby girl, as recorded in your earlier book. John had a delightful visit and Sir Thomas showed him a volume, or volumes, entitled The Maltbys of Yorkshire. I gather that they were quite substantical tomes."
(Note. It was Frances Maltby, b. 1608, who mar. Thomas Tancred, a baronet by Charles II, 1662, buried at Aldborough, 1663. She was dau. of Christopher Maltby of York, descended from Maltby of Maltby and Muston, Yorks. Ref. "Visitations of Yorkshire," "Heraldica," "The Genealogist," Vol. X, p. 164.)
