Of the first Chadeayne ancestor to come to America, it is said, that upon landing, he dropped upon his knees and prayed that none of his descendants would ever be rich.

Mr. Bidwell was a lawyer in New Haven, Conn. He d. Oct. 19, 1907, and his wife died in 1915. She was very dear to the compiler and a most sweet and lovable lady. She gave the compiler many valu- able old records, also Rev. Jonathan (4) Maltby's diploma from Yale College, his spectacles, a sheffield plate snuffer tray, which be- longed to Abigail Williams, wife of Col. Stephen (4) Maltby, a mahog- any card table which belonged to Julia Ann Maltby, and said to have previously belonged to Col. Stephen Maltby.

The Chadaine-Chadane, etc. line, as given me was: "1. Jean Chadene, French Huguenot, from Hiers, France, 1683; 2. John mar. Judith Tillon; 3. Daniel m. Mary Secord of New Rochelle, Westchester Co., N.Y." (I do not know whether or not this is "Auntie" Bidwell's line).
