VI.605. Luther Maltby, b. (Jos. 5, Jos. 4, Jos. 3, Dan. 2, Wm. 1). Mar. (1) Betsey Hosmer, dau. of Thomas Hosmer (Ref. Hosmer Gen.), and his wife Mary (Maltby) Hosmer. (Note "Betsey" for Elizabeth Hosmer). He m. (2) Lavinia Durham of England. He resided at Rutland, Jefferson Co., N.Y. (Mary Maltby was a sister of Chandler Maltby).
"Levinia Durham or Deerham was related to Lord Deerham." She died in the summer of 1878 or 1879, at, or near, Albany, Ill. Mrs. Orin (7) A. Maltby, writes: "Luther Maltby died when my husband was almost an infant. Luther was of French and English extraction. He d. at Dunkirk or Buffalo, N. Y."
Children: VII.1265. Calvin Sylvester Maltby, b. He is said to have resided at Clinton, Iowa. Lived in Texas and died about 1911. VII.1266. Eber Maltby, b. VII.1267. Chauncy " VII.1268. Elizabeth Maltby VII.1269. Hannah " VII.1270. Orella " VII.1271. Orin Alonzo " , b. Jan. 6, 1854. "Lived in Tacoma, Wash." d. July, 1910. VI.606. Calvin Maltby, b. Jan. 15, 1796 (Jos. 5, Jos. 4, Jos. 3, Dan. 2, Wm. 1). Mar. 1817, at Adams, Jefferson Co., N.Y., Mrs. Min- erva (Woodward) Webb. She b. May 25, 1797, and d. in 1863. Both came from Warren, Herkimer Co., N.Y. Res. at Adams Centre, N.Y. He d. Aug. 25, 1871.

The fact that his son, Jay Hayes Maltby, took so much interest in the family, strengthens this belief, combined with strong resem- blances in this family to others of Maltby blood, lead me to this conclusion).
VI.607. Polly (Mary) Maltby, b. Aug. 12, 1798 (Jos. 5, Jos. 4, Jos. 3, Dan. 2, Wm. 1). Mar. Oct. 16, 1817, Benjamin Rice. Founded Riceville, Howard Co., Iowa. He built a mill and later built a large mill at Osoge, Iowa, on the Osoge River. Removed to Decotah to enlarge their mill building operations.
Children: VII.1280. Leonard Rice, b. 1823; d. 1848; unmarried. VII.1281. Louisa " b. 1825; d. 1847, unmarried.
