Monroe E. Maltby wrote that he was an adopted son of Calvin Maltby, and if he was not a Maltby descendant his name should not be here. The writer, however, believes that he must have had Maltby blood, as this family bears a strong resemblance to other Maltbys. He mar. in 1867, Elizabeth Hayes of Detroit, Minn. He d. June 8,1880. He saw four years of active service in the Civil War; a member of the 94th New York Vol. Infantry, and once was captured by the Confederates and confined in Saulsbury; the hardships of the war broke his health
