Maltby-Maltbie Data

The children of Capt. Samuel and Elizabeth Barker Maltby (or Maltbie)
		(from Mrs. Verrill's MS. 1955-1957)
III. 32 Abigail, b. Oct. 29, 1716, died unmarried
III. 33* Samuel, b. Oct. 21, 1718
III. 34 James, b. June 2, 1721; died May 24, 1722
III. 35 Elizabeth, b. July 3, 1723; (not mentioned in father's will, 1751)
III. 36* Mary, b. Feb. 28, 1725
III. 37 Sarah, b. Nov. 10, 1729
III. 38 Rebecca, b. July 28, 1732; d. April 19, 1734

* Only "Samuel Junior" and Mary appear with families in the next genera tion in the MS. This is conclusive evidence that Mrs. Verrill knew of nothing she could add to the above information about the others in this family. Mary married William Gould, a widower, bore one son, whom Mrs. Verrill was unable to trace in the next generation. Mary died in middle age; illness, smallpox.

III. 33. Samuel Maltby, Junior, b. Oct. 21, 1718. Preceding pages (71 and 72) give, in part, the will of Samuel Maltby, Junior. (Branford Rec. Vol. II) (Samuel 2, Wm. 1). It has always been supposed that his first wife was Abigail Wilford. However, I think it probable that he mar. (1) (Boston Rec.), the following: "Intentions of marriage of Samuel Maltby and Anne Dyer, May 9, 1739. They were married June 7, 1739."

Children of Samuel Maltby, Jr., and Anne Dyer Maltby:
IV. 111. Anne Maltby, b. Jan. 24, 1739/40.
IV. 112. Thomas Dyer Maltby, b. Dec. 24, 1740 (evidently d. young)
IV. 113. Thomas Dyer Maltby, b. Dec. 17, 1742.
Samuel Maltby (Jr.) mar. Oct. 13, 1743, Abigail Wilford, (for which see Branford Rec. and Bailey Early Conn. Marriages). Ceremony performed by Rev. Philemon Robbins. (Was she first or second wife?)
Children of Samuel Maltby, Jr., and Abigail Wilford:
IV. 114. Abigail, b. April 22, 1744 (Branford Rec. Vol. "1694").
Samuel Maltby, Jr., mar. Jan. 22, 1745/6 at Branford, Rebecca Foote. Rev. Philemon Robbins performed the ceremony. (Bailey Early Conn. Marriages, Branford Rec.)
Children of Samuel Maltby, Jr. and Rebecca Foote:
IV. 115. Samuel, b. Nov. 15, 1746, at Northford.
IV. 116. James, b. May 30, 1749.
IV. 117. Jonathan, b. Oct. 21, 1751.
IV. 118. Rebecca, b. May 25, 1754; d. May 16 (or 15) 1755 (Branford Rec.
                      of deaths.)

Samuel Maltby, Jr., mar. May 1, 1755, Mary Fowler, of Guilford.

Notes on the ancestry of Rebecca Foote, 2nd or 3rd wife of Samuel Maltby, Jr. (Branford Rec. and Foote Genealogy by Goodwin, 1848). Rebecca Foote was b. Oct. 20, 1723; d. Feb. 9, 1755; dau. of Stephen and Elizabeth (Nash) Foote, of Branford. Stephen Foote was b. Dec. 14, 1672, mar. (1) in 1702, Elizabeth Nash who d. Jan. 15, 1739. He m. (2) Hannah Howd, who d. Sept. 1754. He d. Oct. 23, 1762 at Branford, Conn. Stephen Foote was a son of Lieut. Robert Foote who was b. 1627 or 1629. He d. in 1681. Lieut. Robert Foote was a son of Nathaniel Foote who was b. in 1593, d. in 1644.

Note. Another authority states the 2nd wife of Stephen Foote was "Hannah Howe." Lieut. Robert Foote was of Branford, Wethersfield and Wallingford. The wife of Nathaniel Foote was Elizabeth Deming, sister of Mr. John Dem ing, one of the first settlers of Wethersfield. He married her about 1615. After his death in 1644, she mar. (2) Mr. Thomas Wells, Magistrate, and later Governor of the Colony. She d. July 28, 1683, aged about 85. (Ref. Foote Gen. by Goodwin).
