An atlas of Oakland Co., Mich., F. W. Beers & Co., 1872, places I. Molby on 77 1/2 acres in the southeast corner of Independence Town, and carried the following Business Notice. "Isaac Malby, farmer, District No. 3, at the above location."

Albert B. Simpson was treasurer of Oakland Co., Mich., in 1875-76. Was he the husband of Jennie Molby, daughter of Hiram and Harriet (Adams) Molby?

A history of Oakland Co., Mich., compiled by Thaddeus E. Seeley, published in 1912, states that Sara E. Maltby was then principal of the Davisburg Union School.

A history of Oakland Co., Mich., dealing with the early days states that in the eastern part of the township in which Clarkston Village is located, in 1834-1837, "Classes of the Methodist faith having been formed in that period, there is a record of what was then known as the 'Sashabaw' class named for an Indian chief who was very friendly to the settlers.

"In 1836 there was a small class in the vicinity of Clarkston, which included Azra Crosby and wife, John Merrill and wife, and William Malby and wife."

Mrs. Malby was mentioned among about twenty others who gave the writer of the history assistance on matters relating to that part of the county. William Malby was there spoken of as a settler of early date in Independence Township.

A history of Oakland Co., Mich., 1817-1877, relates that Hiram and Samuel Maltby each subscribed $14 on Pres. Lincoln's call for money to hire or reward volunteers for service in the Civil War.
