About 1927, Mr. Edward B. Lynes was notified from Washington that he had been appointed Captain in the U.S. Reserves, an honor he did not expect and interesting as his ancestor, Captain Jonathan Maltbie, 3rd, had held the same office in the U.S. Navy during the American Revolution.
