Maltby Genealogy

American Lineage

Jason A. Barber writes: "I knew three of my uncles on my mother's side. They were wonderful men, and I was very fond of them in my youth, and my memory of them is intensely vivid to me. I never saw any of them after I was fifteen years old. I remember Uncle Jasper coming home during the Civil War to recover from a wound, I then being a lad of only seven or eight years. He absolutely captivated me.

Later on when I was twelve or thirteen, I became acquainted with my Uncle William M. Maltby, of Corpus Christie, Texas. To my youthful mind he took the highest place of anybody I ever met, and he had the most charming personality of any person that I ever knew, except, per- haps, Edwin Booth. I named one of my children after him, William Malt- by Barber.

My uncle Henry Maltby of Brownsville, Texas, visited us during my youth. He was also a big, brainy man, but he did not so fire his young nephew and nieces as the other two.
