Graduated from Annapolis, Md., June 2, 1893; served as Naval Spy in Spanish-American War, for which he received a medal for "extraordinary heroism" and promotion of ten numbers, April 27 - Aug. 12, 1898. The compiler's sister knew Henry Ward, when he used to come up to New Haven to visit his sister. He was very handsome and a great favorite with his sister's friends.

Foster was in the class, 1891, Yale University. After twenty-two years of military service he was Major in 12th Infantry U.G., N.Y.; and aid-de-camp on the staff of Gov. Whitman. He also served in a similar capacity with Gov. Hughes; Gov. Sulzer, Gov. White and Gov. Glynn. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war. He then went into newspaper work on the New York World. 1920, Major, Regular Army. 1932, Lieut-Col. Regular Army, and 1932, Colonel, retired, Regular Army. Served in World War I as
