While spending a summer at the Sheldon House, Pine Orchard, we met Mrs. Smith in an unusual way. Harold Chatfield, who was taking their motor launch to Madison, Ct., invited us to join him. Enroute he mentioned he had to see Mrs. Smith--which meant nothing to us. On going ashore we found Mrs. Smith was a Maltby and 3rd cousin of my father.

VII.1873. Henry Ellsworth Maltby, b. May 14, 1861 (Douglas F.6, Julius 5, Benj.4, Dan.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. in 1881, Alice White. Obituary: "Mrs Alice White Maltby, a native of Massachusetts, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1936, at Duarte, California. She is survived by her hus- band, Henry Maltby, a sister, Anna A. Merriman, of Springfield, Mass., and a nephew, Maltby Smith, of Duarte. She was b. Sept. 30, 1861. (Maltby Smith is son of her husband's sister, Susan Bronson (Maltby) Smith, of Waterbury, Conn.) Burial at Waterbury, Conn." ("Pasadena Post," Tues. Oct. 20, 1936). There were no children.

VII.1876. Harriet Amelia Maltby, b. Mar. 17, 1852 (Epaphrus C.6, Julius 5, Benj.4, Dan.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. Oct. 3, 1877, Elizur Seneca Stevens, son of David Stevens. She is mentioned with her son, Maltby Stevens, in "A Century of Silver, 1847-1947." The compiler does not have access to this work. She d. Jan. 1, 1905.
