American Lineage

"talented artist of Louisville, Kentucky, to Lieut. J.W. Shelby, formerly of the 14th Indiana Volunteers. He entered the Army at the outbreak of the Civil War, and was in most of the great battles--at Gettysburg, and from the Battle of the Wilderness to the fall of St. Petersburg and the surrender at Appomattox. He was advanced from the ranks to a leiutenancy, for bravery. . .being several times wounded. Her father, the Rev. Prof. B.K. Maltby officiated, and her sister, Alice was bridesmaid. Mar. Sept. 18, 1885.

VII.1469. Lydia Ann Maltby, b. Aug. 30, 1844, Ashtabula Co., O. (Dan.6, Wm.5, Wm.4, Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. Sept. 28, 1864, Rev. Franklin Tounsend Simpson at Elkhart, Indiana. He was a Methodist minister and second cousin of Bishop Simpson. He d. June 17, 1910. Miss Maltby went to Elkhart to visit her uncle Ira Maltby; she conducted a general store on the site of the present Post Office. Here she met Mr. Simpson who was a young minister just beginning his career. On Sept. 28, of the same year, they were married in the Old Methodist Church. During his long service as a minister they resided at Elk- hart from 1877 to 1880; from 1885 to 1890 and returned again in 1900. They had lived at Peru; Union City; Warsaw; Munsie; Anderson; and Fort Wayne.

Shortly before her death Mrs. Simpson furnished many records of her family. Was a member of Maltby Association. She died suddenly of heart failure at her home, 515 South 2nd St., Elkhart, Ind., June 27, 1916.

VII.1470. Florence Isabella Maltby, b. Oct. 4, 1848 (Dan.6, Wm.5, Wm.4, Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. Nov. 16, 1870, Francis Marion French; d. Dec. 6, 1874 at Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. French resided with her daughter in Portland, Oregon. She d. prior to 1923(?)

VII.1472. Lydia Marie Maltby, b. Aug. 17, 1845, Olathe, Kansas (Wm.W.6, Wm.5, Wm.4, Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. Oct. 21, 1867, Capt. Lucius Barney, at Cedar Rapids, Ia., he b. May 15, 1841; d. Oct. 5, 1869, at Hastings, Minn. He was b. at Spencerville, Ind. Was in the Civil War. She d. Apr. 21, 1901, Denver, Colorado.

VII.1473. Franklin Benjamin Maltby, b. Mch. 3, 1848 (Wm.6, Wm.5, Wm. 4, Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mar. Oct. 29, 1877, Hattie Sharon, at Wichita, Kansas. He d. Feb. 26, 1913, at Olathe, Kansas. Their children were all born and raised on a farm at Olathe. The widow resided at 1827
