(Notes by the compiler). Regarding the Maltby tombstones at Branford. When I was last in Branford, in 1906, William (1) Maltbei's stone and that of "Abigail Maltbei" were in good condition--of the "Brownstone" mentioned by Mr. Hall. Standing quite a way to the right, and not far back, as you entered the cemetery.
The Stone of Daniel (2) Maltby was of gray slate, not in good repair, difficult to fine, and further over to the right, near the fence. The stone of Elizabeth (2) Maltby who mar. a Hoadley was slightly back of her father's, William (1) and somewhat to the left.
For the "Maltby Association" I had these stones straightened and put in good repair; accompanied by a statement, that proper care of the stones would be forthcoming if required in the future. In later years I endeavored to have Daniel's stone photographed, but alas, was informed there was no such stone to be found. The writer stated a road had been widened and doubtless the stone had just been thrown away.
