so that he was never the same again, and after moving west and prac- ticing medicine nine years, he finally died at the early age of 37. He left Adams Centre, N.Y., in 1871, moving to Detroit, Minn. (Rec- ords by his son, Jay Hayes Maltby). (Detroit in Becker Co., Minn.)

He died in Medford, Oregon, Apr. 22, 1908, where he had gone in search of a winter home as he could not stand the long, cold winters of Park Rapids, Minn., and had bought the place.
