VI.1052. Sarah Elizabeth Maltby, b. Jan. 30, 1820, Northford (James 5, James 4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). Mar. Edwin Yale of Yalesville, Ct.; he b. Nov. 25, 1810, son of Ira and Harriet (Cooke) Yale. "Presented for Confirmation at Northford, Ct. Oct. 15, 1836, Elizabeth Maltby." "Aunt Foote" wrote: "He is a farmer and resides at Yalesville on the farm of his ancestors."
Ira Yale was of Wallingford. His first wife, Harriet Cooke was b. May 17, 1785; d. Mch. 9, 1830, mar. July 5, 1806. Mar. (2) Oct. 17, 1830, Mary Hawley of Bethany, Ct. He represented his town in the Legislature several years and was J. of P. Harriet Cooke was dau. of Samuel and Mary (Kirtland) Cooke. Mary Kirtland, b. Dec. 23, 1757; d. Mch. 10, 1839. He d. in 1824 aged 66. Mary was a dau. of Constant (son of John and Lydia (Belden) Kirtland) and Rachel Brockett his wife.
Rachel Brockett was b. 1732, dau. of Isaac Brockett and his first wife, Mary, dau. of Capt. Samuel Sedgwick. Isaac Brockett was son of John Brockett and his wife Rachel Brown, dau. of Samuel Brown and Mercy Tuttle and grand-dau. of Francis Brown and Mary Edwards. Mercy Tuttle was dau. of William and wife Elizabeth Tuttle.
William Tuttle was from Northamptonshire, Eng., and Francis Brown was from Radcliffe (Ratcliffe) Yorkshire.
He was one of the seven men sent out from Boston by Rev. John Davenport's colony to find a desirable place to locate. They arrived at Quinnipiac, now New Haven, in the autumn of 1637. Winter advan- cing, they built a hut on what is now the south corner of Church and Meadow Streets. Another of the seven men left to spend the winter was John Beecher, ancestor of Dr. Lyman Beecher; another was Joseph Atwater. One of the party died during the winter.

VI.1055. Deacon William Maltby, b. Mar. 19, 1825 (Henry 5, Jas.4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). Mar. June 4, 1857, Esther Hall, b. Dec. 11, 1823, dau. of Dr. Rice and Esther (Hall) Hall, of Wallingford, Ct. He, as did his ancestors, resided at Northford, Ct. He d. May 31, 1908. Was a member of the Maltby Association.
In 1906 when I, with my mother and sister, were leaving for the West, we went up to Northford to see the old place and the Maltbys who were residing there.
We knew of descendants of Daniel (2), so called on them. As we were leaving they told us: "There is another Maltby living here but they are no relation."
This "no relation" was Deacon William and his family, who de- scended from Samuel (2) Maltbie. Deacon William Maltby's photograph and his obituary were published in the Maltby Association Booklet No. 2.
Obituary.
"In the death of Deacon William Maltby the town loses one of its oldest and best citizens. In his younger days he was a school teacher and taught school in Wallingford and other towns. Later he settled
