V.381. Jacob Maltby, b. in Connecticut, ca. Feb. 28, 1782 (Jonathan 4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). He died Nov. 2, 1856 at his farm in the town of Van Buren, Onondaga Co., N.Y., ae. 74. Mar. Sarah (Sally) Miner, date ( ?). She was b. Aug. 19, 1791 in Albany Co., N.Y.; died June 17, 1887, at the home of her son John in the town of Van Buren.

Professor W. W. Clayton's History of Onondaga County has it that Jacob and his brother Chester came to that region about 1797. We now know that the father of Jacob and Chester sold his farm in the town of Salem, Washington County, New York, 1803-4 and bought a farm in Camillus in August of 1804. This fixed the date of arrival of this family in Camillus, as nearly as we have been able to learn.

Miss Lesley E. Voorhees, a long time resident of Baldwinsville, living in Baldwinsville, 1954, has furnished most of the information given here concerning the Maltby-Molby Family in Onondaga County, over the 150 years since the first of them came there.

Jacob Maltby (he seems always to have used this spelling) owned a farm not far from his father's farm in Camillus-Van Buren, and appears to have lived and died on the same farm.

Jacob Maltby's grandson, Thaddeus Haynes Maltby and Chester's grandson, Samuel James Molby related to Fred A Molby, son of Samuel James, 1844, that Jacob had the family Bible and its records of the family, a Coat of Arms, and whatever family relics there were, and that Jacob's widow, Sarah, took them to the home of John Bowman when she married him for her second husband. As related in a newspaper account included herewith, their home on the John Bowman farm burned and the contents were lost, (the fate of many records). (It will be noted later, Jacob Maltby and John Bowman were brothers-in-law, John's first wife having been Matilda Miner, a sister of Sarah (Miner) Maltby). Bowman also was an early settler in Van Buren Town; lived
