V.234. William Maltby (John 4, Wm.3, Wm.2, Wm.1). He may be the following: (South Carolina Hist. and Gen. Magazine, Vol. III, p. 123) "Roll of Capt. John Jenkins Co. of Volunteer Militia, from Papers of the first Council of Safety of the Revolution June- November, 1775. William Maltby," In the "Boston Transcript," Nov. 21, 1921, "W.K.S." replied to my query regarding this William Maltby. He wrote" "William Maltby mar. Caroline Holmes, step-daughter of John Reanille (Renell) of Beach Creek, Pa. Caroline's mother was Elish- aba Holmes, before she mar. John Renell, then living in Pottsville, Pa., 1848. V.235. John Davenport Maltby (John 4, Wm.3, Wm.2, Wm.1). There is a Deed, dated Sept. 16, 1787, between John Davenport Maltby of Warwick (Mariner) and Hester his wife, to Dr. Richard Bell, of Southampton,"1st party sells to 2nd party, one undivided 3rd part in several tracts of land." (Note. Warwick is evidently the parish of Warwick, Bermuda, also Southampton. On the steamer going to Bermuda in 1887, we met a Dr. Bell from Hartford, who was on his way to visit his mother, Mrs. Bell in Bermuda. Hearing Mother's name, he said he knew of the Maltbys.) The above mentions a third part of lands. Possibly the son William had died unmarried. I have considered the possibility that Hester was a Bell. The Bell home was but a couple of blocks from where we had the second floor of the Kirkham house on Cedar avenue. It was an attractive old Bermudian home with the usual lovely garden. Dr. Bell certain- ly memtioned "he was some sort of relation of the Maltbys." V.236. Margaret Maltby, (John 4, Wm.3, Wm.2, Wm.1). Married Stow Wood, merchant, of Bermuda, West Indies. V.237. Rev. Joseph Maltby, b. 1768 (Joseph 4, Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Married Hannah Suydan. Note. The Suydans were a distinguished family of Dutch descent. In the "Old Graveyard beside the state road from Cambridge to North Hoosicks, N. Y., across the fields, a few rods distant and on another road, a small graveyard contains stones to "Peter Von Surdan, d. Aug. 23, 1801, in his 78th year." (b. 1724) "Peil (7) Von Surdan, d. Apr. 24, 1834 in her 71st year." (b.1763) "Cibbe, wife of Anthony Von Surdan, d. Oct.8,1826 ae. 66 years." (b. 1760) Rev. Joseph Maltby may have been born at Salisbury, Connecticut. Cynthia (7) Maltby wrote: "March 10, 1908": "I remember my grandfather Rev. Joseph Maltby very well, he
